For the fourth consecutive year, SPIRE Credit Union partnered with local radio station KS95 on the annual "Clouds Choir for a Cause," benefiting the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund. SPIRE has donated $40,000 to the cause since 2018.
The event returned to the Mall of America on December 10 to a livestreaming audience on ks95.com. Three-time Grammy Award winning vocal group Sounds of Blackness performed Sobiech's hit song, "Clouds."
"We believe that when you give back, you give hope and encouragement," said SPIRE Credit Union President/CEO Dan Stoltz. "This event is all about that . . . Zach's story and his song are so inspirational."
The KS95 Clouds Choir for a Cause was first held in 2013 to honor local teen Zach Sobiech. Zach, who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at the age of 14, penned the song "Clouds" as a way to say goodbye to his friends and family. When Zach passed away in May of 2013, "Clouds" became the number one song on iTunes. In December of that year, the first Clouds Choir was held at the Mall of America - bringing thousands of people together to remember Zach, raise awareness and funds for childhood cancers, and to sing "Clouds."
The Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund was established in 2012 to support research to improve treatments for the deadly cancer. Learn more about Zach's story at www.childrenscancer.org/zach.
